Each required topic in your ASU 101 course has four or five corresponding GetSet exercises, which consist of short-answer essay questions. When you cover a required topic in class, you’ll assign the corresponding GetSet exercises as homework.

Follow three steps each week:

  1. Using our Exercise Guide, assign the GetSet exercise that correlates with the 101 topic you're covering that week.
  2. View students' completed exercises in Insight, GetSet's data dashboard.
  3. Next class, use our Discussion Guide to discuss the previous week's homework.

GetSet is available as a resource for students throughout their time at ASU. To maximize student success, encourage them to use GetSet on their own outside of class.

We recommend waiting until the second week of class to introduce GetSet.

In class: Introduce GetSet in the second week of class. Feel free to follow this section as a script.

“Nobody knows what it’s like to be an ASU student better than a fellow ASU student. GetSet is an online community just for Sun Devils to freely share tips, discuss challenges, and motivate one another. You can log in to GetSet any time, even from home.

Some parts of GetSet will be assigned as homework. These exercises will mostly include writing short reflections based on the topics we discuss in class.

Even when GetSet exercises aren’t assigned in class, you should still think of the community as a resource that's there whenever you need it. GetSet will be available to you as long as you’re a student at ASU.”

Student homework: The first exercise is to complete GetSet’s Orientation, which will teach students about the growth mindset and how to use GetSet.

Students can access GetSet’s Orientation by clicking the link in your Blackboard course. The link will log them in automatically. The exercise should take about 20 minutes.

We recommend completing GetSet’s Orientation on a computer, not a mobile device, due to the amount of typing required. Orientation cannot be completed in the GetSet app.

Week 3

In class: Discuss the stories your students read and wrote in GetSet’s Orientation (see the GetSet Discussion Guide). Instruct students to download the mobile app so they can access GetSet any time.

Student homework: Assign any of the GetSet exercises that correspond to the ASU 101 topic you’re covering that week. Students should log in to GetSet and write their own exercise responses. They should also read and comment on the responses posted by their classmates. You can view students’ completed exercises in Insight.

Week 4 and beyond

In class:  Discuss the stories your students read and wrote in GetSet’s Orientation (see the GetSet Discussion Guide). Instruct students to download the mobile app so they can access GetSet any time.

Student Homework: Assign any of the GetSet exercises that correspond with the ASU 101 topic you’re covering that week. Students should write their own exercise responses, and read the responses written by their classmates. You can view students’ completed exercises in Insight.
